Keppel and DNV GL team up to promote LNG as a ship fuel

Classification society DNV GL and Keppel Marine and Deepwater Technology (KMDTech), a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), announced that they have signed a framework agreement to boost the uptake of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as ship fuel. The agreement covers potential newbuilding projects including LNG bunker vessels, small-scale LNG carriers and floating storage regasification units (FSRUs), as well as LNG related assets employing battery and hybrid technologies.

Joint industry program in Singapore aims to boost the use of additive manufacturing in the maritime industry

DNV GL has been appointed as the lead researcher of the first phase of a new Singapore-based program to study the feasibility of additive manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, in the maritime industry. In a joint industry program (JIP) initiated by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), DNV GL will team up with ten member companies of the Singapore Ship Association (SSA) to examine how spare parts produced by 3D printers can help the capital-intensive industry to cut costs and downtimes.

DNV GL rolls out remote surveys for all vessels

Leading classification society DNV GL announced today that all DNV GL classed vessels are now able to utilize the possibility of remote surveys for some inspections through the Veracity data platform. This means that for a range of surveys, a DNV GL surveyor will not be required to travel to the vessel. Instead, by using an online connection or video streaming link, a dedicated team of remote surveyors can provide support to vessels anywhere in the world with documentation, images, video (streaming or recordings), and input provided by the customer and crew.

DNV GL and Metalships & Docks ink class agreement for luxury sailing vessel

DNV GL has been awarded a contract for the classification of the passenger sailing ship Sea Cloud Spirit, built by Metalships & Docks in Vigo, Spain. Representatives from both companies came together in Vigo this week to sign the agreement. Ordered by the Hamburg-based operator Sea Cloud Cruises, the vessel is designed to meet the increasing demand from both independent travellers and the charter market, mainly in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

World’s first iVLOC delivered with DNV GL class

The world’s first intelligent very large ore carrier (iVLOC), the DNV GL-classed Pacific Vision, was delivered by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard to China Merchants Energy Shipping Company. The vessel is the world’s first VLOC to implement DNV GL’s SmartShip descriptive notation. To qualify for the notation, Pacific Vision has been outfitted with an integration platform, a smart navigation decision support system, a ship energy efficiency management and optimization system, and smart-vessel operation and maintenance system.
