Join us for our next workshop series focused on offshore wind turbine support structure design. 

DNV GL will be offering a complimentary 6 day hands-on workshop on Offshore Wind Turbine Design using our Sesam Software.  The courses will be offered on Friday afternoons from 12:30-4:30 (with exception of the Feb. 1st course which will begin at 9:00am and end at 1:00 pm), please see agenda below.  The course will be split into a fixed and floating portion, the first 3 days will be fixed OWT design and the last 3 days will be floating OWT design.

The fixed workshop will will consist of 3 days and will incorporate: 

  • The first and second class will perform a summary of the fixed structure jacket design.  In the first class, the OWT jacket modeling and static analysis with pile/soil foundation plus the code check will be performed.  
  • The second class, a hands-on session of Direct Deterministic Fatigue will be performed.  
  • The third class will focus on the offshore wind capabilities in Sesam for fixed offshore wind turbine support structures. It will walk through the industry workflows and the interfaces that exist with the different wind turbine manufacturers. The workshop will guide the participants through a FLS and/or ULS workflow. 
  • We will also showcase the cloud functionalities in Sesam, allowing for further optimization and shorter analysis cycles of large offshore wind design load case tables.

The floating workshop will consist of 3 days and will incorporate:

  • Floating Hydrodynamic Design of a Semisub, Mooring and Floating Wind Configuration, and Floating Wind Turbine and Support Structure Design.   
  • The first class will consist of Linear Frequency Domain Hydrodynamic Design of a Semisub using HydroD/Wadam.  This purpose of this class will be to setup a hydrodynamic analysis and compute the needed hydrodynamic coefficients.  Model checks, RAO analysis and motion analysis will also be included.
  • The second class with be setting up the model in Sima (time domain).  This will include setting up a mooring system as well as configuring the turbine and the blades.
  • The third class will be running the fully coupled Floating OWT model and looking at results.  The load mapping from Sima to Wasim will be demonstrated, as well as the time domain shell fatigue analysis. 

*Please note the workshop to be held on February 1st will begin at 9:00am and end at 1:00pm.

This is a hands-on workshop. We have a limited number of PC’s, but will provide a training license if you choose to bring your person laptop. This requires prior notice, so please be sure to note appropriately during the registration process.
